Fatal single vehicle collision in southeast Calgary

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal single vehicle collision in southeast Calgary.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, police were called to reports of a fatal single vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail S.E., near the intersection of 114 Avenue S.E.

It is believed a black Chevrolet Cobalt was being driven northbound on Stoney Trail in the third lane. The vehicle was starting to exit onto 114 Avenue when it lost control and spun back onto Stoney Trail where it crossed all three lanes of traffic and collided with a street light pole in the median.

The 35-year-old male driver received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, there is no evidence indicating any other vehicle was involved in the collision.

Speed and alcohol are being investigated as factors in this collision.
