Fatal shooting in Martindale
We continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred early this morning in Martindale.
Since the incident, investigators have been working diligently to collect evidence from the scene, review CCTV and dashcam footage from the area and have been speaking with several witnesses.
At this point, it is believed the shooting occurred in the 300 block of Martindale Drive N.E., and the victim, a 15-year-old girl, was in the passenger seat of a vehicle when she was shot. Following the shooting, the victims fled in their vehicle and stopped in the 200 block of Martin Crossing Crescent N.E., to contact police. The suspect(s) also fled in an unknown direction. Descriptions of the suspect(s) have not yet been confirmed.
Officers have preliminarily identified the victim and an autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Investigators have notified her next of kin and her identity will be released following the completion of the autopsy.
“We are still in the early stages of this investigation, and we have a lot of unanswered questions that we are working through,” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the CPS Homicide Unit. “At this point, we are unable to confirm if this shooting was targeted, and we have dedicated a significant amount of resources to identify any persons involved.”
This is Calgary’s third homicide of 2023.

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has been called out following a fatal shooting of a teenage girl in Martindale early this morning.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, police were called to the 200 block of Martin Crossing Crescent N.E., for reports of a shooting in an alley. The teen was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A description of the suspect is not yet available and it is not yet known if this was a targeted incident.
Further details about the victim will be released once an autopsy and next of kin notifications can be completed.
