Fatal shooting in Crestmont

A fatal shooting in the southwest community of Crestmont earlier this afternoon resulted in the death of a man and his dog.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, police were called to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Cresthaven Place S.W. Upon arrival by EMS, the victim was declared deceased.

It is believed the suspect(s) fled the area in a vehicle. The vehicle may be related to an unoccupied vehicle subsequently recovered by the Cochrane RCMP. At this time, investigators believe this was not a random attack.

“This shooting took place in the middle of the day in a neighbourhood area where people were out walking their dogs. We are currently speaking with a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact police,” says Homicide Unit Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm. “We will not tolerate this kind of reckless disregard for public safety and will dedicate as many resources as it takes to finding the person or persons responsible.”

An autopsy is expected to be scheduled in the coming days. Further information about the victim will not be released until a proper next of kin notification can be completed.
