Fatal pedestrian collision in Whitehorn

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a CTrain.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, a 30-year-old male pedestrian stepped out in front of a northbound CTrain at the Whitehorn LRT Station. The pedestrian was struck by the train and declared deceased on scene by EMS. The passengers and driver of the train were uninjured as a result of the collision.

Investigators have determined that the warning signals were activated and functioning correctly. At this time it appears the pedestrian was distracted by his cellphone and was wearing earphones at the time. Speed is not considered to be a factor in the collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs, on the part of the pedestrian, are factors in this collision.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage to assist them in the investigation.
