Fatal motorcycle collision investigation

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of a motorcyclist who was killed in a collision last night, and to his wife, who remains in hospital with serious injuries as a result of the collision. Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact police.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, a Yamaha motorcycle was being driven northbound on 14 Street N.W., by a man in his 30s. The man’s wife, a woman in her 30s, was riding as a passenger on the back of the bike.

At the same time, a silver Honda CRV, driven by a man in his 30s, was travelling southbound on 14 Street N.W., and turned onto eastbound 20 Avenue N.W. Both vehicles collided in the intersection, causing the motorcycle riders to be thrown from the bike. Both vehicles immediately caught on fire, causing extensive damage.

The motorcycle riders were transported to hospital, where the driver was later pronounced deceased. The motorcycle passenger remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The Honda driver was uninjured in the collision.

Speed and alcohol are being investigated as a factor in the collision, however, the exact cause remains under investigation. We are asking anyone who might have witnessed the collision, or the events leading up to the collision to contact police if they have not already done so by calling the non-emergency number 403-266-1234.
