Fatal motorcycle collision in the southeast

At approximately 12:05 a.m., this morning, Friday, July 16, 2021, a two-vehicle collision occurred on Deerfoot Trail and 212 Avenue S.E. that resulted in the fatality of a motorcyclist.

A 2012 Victory Jackpot motorcycle was stationary on the traffic gore separating Deerfoot Trail and the off ramp to 212 Avenue S.E. The rider, a 50-year-old male, was stationary on the motorcycle.

At the same time, a 2015 Toyota Sienna van was travelling north on Deerfoot Trail and entered onto the traffic gore and struck the rear of the motorcycle at a high rate of speed.

The Toyota was being driven by a 39-year-old male, and carrying passengers including a 39-year-old female and four children, ranging in ages between one and 12-years-old.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and occupants of the Toyota were all taken to hospital as a precaution.

Speed, drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the collision, although distracted driving is being considered a factor.
