Fatal motorcycle collision- Memorial Drive

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that occurred overnight involving a motorcyclist.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., today, Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, police responded to the 1200 block of Memorial Drive N.W., for reports of a single vehicle crash. It’s believed the black Honda motorcycle was headed east on Memorial Drive, when the 23-year-old driver lost control as he entered a right-hand bend on the roadway.

The motorcycle struck the raised stone median on the road that separates the eastbound and westbound lanes. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, and then struck a tree in the median. The motorcycle continued along Memorial Drive and eventually slid into a nearby roadway.

The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Both excessive speed and alcohol are factors being investigated in this collision.
