Fatal hit-and-run collision - 52 Street and 16 Avenue N.E.

An early morning hit-and-run collision that resulted in one fatality continues to be investigated by the Calgary Police Service.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., today, Wednesday, May 13, 2020, a 2010 Dodge Journey, traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound 52 Street, close to the interchange with 16 Avenue N.E., was struck from behind by a 2008 Buick Allure.

The Dodge Journey crossed over the centre median and one male occupant was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. Two male occupants of the Dodge were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Buick remained on scene for a short time before fleeing. Later in the day it was located unoccupied in the Saddletowne area.

Excessive speed is a factor in the collision but at this time it is not clear if this was a road racing incident. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role. No other details can be confirmed at this time.
