Fatal collision on Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a fatal collision on Deerfoot Trail.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, a 2002 BMW 325CI operated by a 44-year old woman was traveling northbound on Deerfoot Trail N.E., approaching the Stoney Trail interchange when it lost control. A 1997 Kenworth Tractor Trailer, operated by a 33-year old man was traveling behind the BMW.

The BMW was T-boned by the Kenworth. The BMW came to rest approximately 88 metres north of the area of impact. The Kenworth jackknifed off the road to the left and came to rest approximately 80 metres away.

The driver of the BMW was transported to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Kenworth was not injured.

Speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
