Fatal collision in southeast Calgary

The Calgary Police Service Domestic Conflict Unit and Traffic Section is investigating what led up to a fatal collision that occurred early this morning.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, police were called to a Copperfield residence for reports of a woman needing medical attention. Upon arrival, officers located the female, who is believed to have been the victim of a domestic assault. Approximately 15 minutes later, while searching for the suspect, police were notified of a fatal collision involving a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Officers believe that after fleeing the residence, the suspect, who was driving a white pickup truck, was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck that had been travelling west on Highway 22X near 104 Street S.E. The cause of the collision is still being investigated, however it is believed that the white pickup truck, which had been travelling east on Highway 22X, crossed the center line into the path of the oncoming semi-truck. The driver of the white pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the semi-truck was taken to hospital for precautionary measures.

All roads in the area have since been reopened.

As the collision is believed to be related to the earlier domestic matter, no further information can be released.
