Fatal collision in northeast Calgary

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate after a fatal collision occurred late last night.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., yesterday, Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, a Jeep was travelling on north in the 3000 block of Westwinds Drive N.E. At the same time, a snowplow was travelling south on the same road. As the road began to curve, the driver of the Jeep failed to negotiate the curve and entered the path of the oncoming snowplow, resulting in a fatal collision.

The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old man, was declared deceased on scene. The driver of the snowplow did not sustain injuries.

Westwinds Drive N.E., remained closed to traffic for several hours while our Traffic Section investigated. All roads are now open.

We are investigating speed as a factor in this collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dashcam from the area is asked to contact the Calgary Police Traffic Section directly by calling 403-428-4000, or the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
