Fatal collision - McKnight Boulevard N.E.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that took place yesterday.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, a 2002 Jeep Liberty was traveling west on McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 68 Street and 52 Street, when it lost control. The Jeep began to rotate counterclockwise in the far right lane. The vehicle swerved and traveled a distance of 110 meters, before entering the centre median. Once in the median the vehicle continued to travel a short distance before rolling across the eastbound lanes.

All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Once transported to hospital, the front passenger, a 17-year-old female, succumbed to her injuries. The male driver and rear female passenger remain in hospital in life-threatening condition.

Speed and alcohol both appear to be factors in the collision.
