Fatal Collision - Crowchild Trail

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that occurred early this morning.

At approximately 12 a.m., on Monday, June 11, 2018, a pick-up truck was headed south on Crowchild Trail when the driver lost control near Charleswood Drive N.W. The vehicle struck the concrete median barrier and crossed four lanes of traffic before mounting the curb and hitting a tree.

The collision with the tree caused extensive damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and trapped both the driver and front-seat passenger. A fire also started in the engine compartment.

Both occupants were extricated from the vehicle, however, the passenger was deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Both excessive speed and alcohol are considered to be factors in this collision.
