Fatal Collision - Crowchild Trail S.W.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that occurred early this morning.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina was traveling south on Crowchild Trail S.W., when it exited onto the exit ramp for eastbound Glenmore Trail S.W. The driver failed to negotiate the curve and struck the outside concrete barrier, then mounted the barrier and travelled along it for more than 50 metres. The car then went over the barrier on to the grass slope leading to the community of Lakeview. The car, which had caught fire, continued to slide on the grass and struck a tree near the driver’s door. The car then became completely engulfed in flames.

A female passenger was removed from the vehicle by a witness, however, the driver succumbed to their injuries inside the car. The gender and identity of the driver remains unknown at this time.

Speed and alcohol are considered factors in this collision.
