Fatal collision - 130 Avenue S.E.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a single vehicle fatality in the southeast.

At approximately 3 a.m., today, Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, a patrolling CPS unit came across a fire near a car dealership in the 6400 block of 130 Ave. S.E. Closer inspection led to the discovery of an older model Oldsmobile on fire.

The vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on McIvor Blvd. S.E. towards a bend in the road with 130 Ave. It struck two barriers, continued northbound and was launched approximately 20 metres, striking a power pole. The vehicle caught on fire at contact.

The male driver suffered fatal injuries.

Alcohol and speed are considered to be factors.
