Early morning shooting on 7 Street

UPDATE

One man remains in critical, but stable condition following a shooting early this morning in Mount Royal.

At approximately 8:05 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, police were called to the 2200 block of 7 Street S.W., for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, a man in his 40s was located injured inside a vehicle and was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Officers immediately flooded the area and began gathering information about suspect descriptions and a possible vehicle involved.

Shortly after, at approximately 8:10 a.m., a vehicle fire was reported a few blocks away from the shooting, in the 3800 block of 7 Street S.W. It is not yet known if this incident, or the vehicle involved, is connected to the shooting. Investigators are looking at all possibilities.

By the nature of this attack, it is believed to be targeted, however, an exact motive is not known at this time. The victim’s name will not be released.

The only description of the suspect available at this time is that of a male wearing a bright orange jacket.

The Calgary Police Service is currently at the scene of an early morning shooting downtown in which one person has been injured.

At approximately 8:05 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, police were called to the 2200 block of 7 St. S.W., for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival one man was located injured and was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Police are currently working to determine a description of the suspect(s) or any vehicles involved. More information will be released as it becomes available.
