Duplex Fire in Livingston
On September 20th, 2025 at approximately 2:00PM the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to multiple 911 calls for a home on fire in the northeast community of Livingston. On arrival at the 100 block of Calhoun Common the CFD observed a two-story duplex multi-family occupancy with heavy smoke and fire pushing from the rear of the building and through the roof. Occupants of the home were evacuating and there was information that some occupants were unable to leave their homes. Fire was quickly spreading from the source home to an adjacent home to the east.
Fire crews moved to the rear of the home to gain better access to the area burning due to the lack of access between buildings. Crews used large hose lines and elevated streams from an aerial ladder to bring the fire under control. Firefighters were able to access all involved homes quickly and search for remaining occupants. Neighbors in the area had assisted helping an occupant from the burning home as the CFD was arriving.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from entering a second structure, but unfortunately damage was substantial to both sides of the involved duplex. In the adjacent structures, damage was limited to smoke and burned siding.
A total of five occupants were displaced from both homes. One adult male from the source unit was assessed by AHS medics on scene but not transported, and one young child was assessed and transported for minor smoke exposure as a precaution.
Calgary Police were instrumental in securing access to the area for firefighters, and ATCO and Enmax both assisted in securing the buildings utilities.
