Drug trafficking charges laid and rifle seized from child’s bedroom
The Calgary Police Service has laid multiple charges and seized over $63,000 in cash following a two-month drug trafficking investigation.
On Thursday, June 2, 2016, at approximately 12:20 p.m., officers in the District Operations Team initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of 52 Street S.E. and Memorial Drive S.E. Two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. A short time later, with the assistance of the Tactical Unit, officers executed a search warrant on a residence in the 400 block of Marlborough Way. One man was taken into custody from the residence.
The following items were seized as a result of the search warrant:
- $63,535 in Canadian currency
- 177.1 grams of cocaine worth approximately $17,200
- 122.2 grams of marijuana worth approximately $1,270
- 3 fentanyl pills
- 705.8 grams of cutting agent
- A loaded 9 mm handgun
- A .22 caliber rifle with a loaded drum magazine holding several hundred rounds of ammunition, which was recovered from a child’s bedroom
- A collapsible baton
- 9 license plates
Jawar ALI, 22, of Calgary is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of improper storage of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been altered or removed and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
Hevi ALI, 26, of Calgary is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of improper storage of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been altered or removed and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
Lali ALI, 28, of Calgary is charged with possession of marijuana.
The three accused are siblings.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
