Driver charged in fatal collision on Macleod Trail
Following an investigation into the double fatality hit-and-run collision on Macleod Trail S.E., we have charged Yannick Joseph BOUCHARD, 51, of Calgary, with:
- Fail/refuse to comply with demand after an accident resulting in death
- Two counts of dangerous operation causing death
- One count of dangerous operation causing bodily harm
- Two counts of hit and run causing death
- One count of hit and run causing bodily harm
Additional charges are pending and the investigation into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing. BOUCHARD remains in custody at this time pending his next court appearance.

Father and daughter die in fatal Macleod Trail collision
An 11-year-old girl was seriously injured while her father and seven-year-old sister were killed in a collision on Macleod Trail last night. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victims.
Around 5:20 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, a multi-vehicle collision occurred in the 12800 block of Macleod Trail S.E. A three-quarter ton pick-up truck, driven by a man in his 50s, was travelling northbound on Macleod Trail in the left-hand lane when it rear-ended a sedan with three occupants. The impact forced the car to rotate and cross over the center median into the southbound lanes. The car was then struck by a southbound half-ton truck.
The driver of the half-ton truck was not injured. The occupants of the car were extracted by the Calgary Fire Department. Sadly, two of them, a 37-year-old man and his seven-year-old daughter, were declared deceased on scene. An 11-year-old girl was transported to hospital in serious condition and later released to recover at home.
After striking the car, the three-quarter ton truck continued northbound, crossed over the center median, crossed the southbound lanes and drove up the shoulder and onto the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks where it came to rest. The driver, who received no injuries as a result of the collision, fled the scene on foot and was apprehended a short distance away.
He was taken into custody and multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing death, are pending the results of the investigation.
At this time there is no evidence of impairment on the part of the driver of the three-quarter ton truck. Excessive speed is considered a factor in this collision. Investigators are calling on anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dash camera footage of the vehicles leading up to the collision, to contact police.
