Driver charged in dangerous driving incident

We have charged a man following an incident that occurred during an active traffic investigation overnight.

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a vehicle drove through a barricade that had been erected by police on Stoney Trail and McKnight Blvd. N.E., as officers investigated a fatal collision.

The driver continued at a high rate of speed, driving through the crime scene while officers were present, potentially putting their lives at risk while also potentially destroying crucial evidence.

The driver was arrested and their vehicle seized.

As a result, Charanjit RAM, 39, of Calgary, is charged with:

·        One count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

·        One count of obstructing a Peace Officer

“Police often close roads after collisions to protect the officers at work and the integrity of the investigation,” said Inspector Robbie Patterson, with the Calgary Police Traffic Unit. “The barricades are there for a reason and there is no excuse for drivers to ignore them.”

RAM is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
