Driver arrested for hit and run of cyclist

A truck and driver believed to be responsible for an intentional hit and run yesterday that left a cyclist in life-threatening condition, have been located.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, a man and a woman were cycling northbound on Forest Road S.E. At the same time, a newer model red, Dodge Ram truck was parked northbound in the 200 block of Forest Road S.E. As the cyclists approached the intersection, the truck turned around and then turned southbound onto Forest Road, striking the female cyclist in the center of the intersection. The male cyclist was able to avoid the truck which fled the scene following the collision.

The woman was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. She remains in hospital in serious condition.

As a result of helpful witnesses and CCTV in the area, the truck was identified and officers circulated the area looking for the vehicle and suspect. Later that day at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers located the vehicle and the man who is believed to have been the driver at the time of the collision and he was taken into custody for questioning. The suspect was released without charge pending further investigation.

It is believed the woman and the suspect knew each other prior to the collision.
