Downtown pedestrian collision results in serious injuries - Update

Update

The man who was seriously injured following a collision that occurred downtown last week has died. 

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:

A man in his 50s remains in hospital in serious condition following a collision with a truck in downtown Calgary early this morning.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, police were called to the intersection of Ninth Avenue S.E. and Third Street S.E., for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

It is believed that a 2004 GMC Sierra truck was driving eastbound on Ninth Avenue S.E., when the pedestrian entered the roadway, attempting to cross the road outside the confines of the crosswalk. The pedestrian is believed to have been struck by the driver-side corner of the truck, resulting in life-threatening injuries.

The driver initially continued eastbound from the collision scene, but quickly returned. They were uninjured during the collision.

Impairment and excessive speed are not believed to be factors in this collision.
