Downtown hit-and-run collision

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a hit-and-run collision that resulted in a pedestrian being injured.

At approximately 2:55 a.m., on Sunday, April 22, 2018, two men were crossing the road at the intersection of 2 Street and 15 Avenue S.W., when one of the men was struck by a southbound vehicle. The pedestrians were crossing 2 Street from east to west on the south side of the intersection when the vehicle failed to yield and the 50-year-old man was struck. The victim was thrown across the road and the driver of the vehicle left the scene without stopping. The car left the area south along 2 Street S.W.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators continue to search for the offending driver and vehicle. It’s believed the car will have significant damage to the front, hood and windshield because of the collision.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. Excessive speed may have been a factor in the collision.

Members of the Calgary Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit request that anybody who was a witness to the collision or who knows the location of the vehicle and /or the driver to call the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.
