Downtown crane incident

One man has been taken safely into custody following a lengthy incident at a crane in the downtown core.

At approximately 6:50 a.m., Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, police were called to the 600 block of 10 Ave S.W. for reports that a man who had climbed a 26-story construction crane and was occupying the operator’s cab. The Calgary Fire Department, EMS and a number of CPS units, including TAC and negotiators, were called into assist while roads in the area were shut down.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., the man was lowered to the ground with assistance from the CFD High Angle Team.

It is not yet known why the man may have climbed the crane, or if charges will be laid. An investigation into the incident will continue.
