District 8 boosts visible presence and enforcement at south CTrain stations
Since mid-April, District 8 Community Resource Officers (CROs) have been conducting targeted enforcement at the Somerset-Bridlewood, Shawnessy and Fish Creek-Lacombe CTrain stations in response to ongoing crime, disorder and public safety concerns.
The CROs are leading the enforcement and community engagement initiative as part of the district’s comprehensive Crime Reduction Strategy. With support from the Community Engagement Response Team and patrol members, officers carried out enforcement and outreach activities, including weekday morning deployments on platforms and trains during peak commuter periods.
The initiative focused on:
- High-visibility patrols
- Fare and ticket enforcement
- Warrant execution
- Addressing public safety concerns and disorder
- Engagement with transit users and operators, nearby businesses and surrounding communities
Enforcement results:
- 182 summonses issued
- 167 warrants executed
- Nine Criminal Code charges laid
- One knife and one sword seized
“High-visibility enforcement initiatives like this send a clear message that criminal activity and disorder impacting our communities will not be tolerated,” said District 8 Insp. Darry Midtdal. “Our officers will continue these coordinated, targeted efforts to disrupt offending behaviour and address ongoing public safety issues affecting residents, businesses and transit users.”
