Declutter and discover! The city-wide curbside treasure hunt is back
Ahoy treasure hunters!
The City of Calgary is pleased to announce that the Curbside Treasure Hunt is set to return September 12 and 13, 2026. On those days, residents are invited to set out gently used, reusable items they no longer need on their curb for neighbours to take and enjoy. Think of it as a giant, free garage sale for the whole city!
Members of the public are also welcome to explore their neighbourhoods to find unique and unwanted items that would otherwise end up in landfills.
“Over the past few years, this has become one of our most beloved events, and by taking part, residents can make a big impact in helping reduce waste,” says Natalia Gonzalez, Waste Diversion Specialist. “We invite all members of the public to take part, whether decluttering their home or searching for that next great find.”
New this year
To help make it easier for prospective treasure hunters to see what’s out there, declutterers can now add items they plan to set out for the event to a new online map simply by filling out this form.
How to participate
Gather: identify items in your home that you no longer need but could be valuable to someone else.
Post: add your items to our online map by filling out this form.
Label: mark these items with a “Free” label.
Place: set the items out at the curb on September 12 and 13.
Discover: residents and treasure hunters can explore different neighborhoods, picking up items they find interesting or useful.
Clean up: remove left over items from the curbside by 5 p.m. on September 13. Visit calgary.ca/whatgoeswhere to find out where to recycle, donate or dispose of any remaining items.
For safety reasons, please don’t put out items that could be hazardous or not safe to reuse, such as:
- Mattresses
- Toilets
- Unsafe or recalled items
- Baby gear or safety equipment that may not meet current standards
