Death of man found in burning vehicle deemed non-criminal

The death of a man who was found in a burning vehicle yesterday in Radisson Heights has been determined not to be criminal in nature.

Emergency crews were called to the 3200 block of 12 Ave. S.E., at approximately 3:30 p.m., yesterday, Tuesday, July 12, 2016, for reports of a vehicle fire. The Calgary Fire Department extinguished the fire and a body was located inside the vehicle.

The Calgary Police Service Arson and Homicide Units, along with the Medical Examiner attended the scene. Initial indications of foul play were determined to have been caused by the fire itself. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for today, Wednesday, July 13, 2016, to determine the cause of death in conjunction with the ongoing police investigation into whether the death was accidental or a suicide.

As the death has been deemed not to be a criminal matter, no further information will be released.
