Death of Jelisa MASCHKI ruled a homicide

Based on new evidence, Jelisa MASCHKI’s death is now being ruled a homicide.

At approximately 4 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, we were called to the Nose Creek Pathway located near the 1100 block of 32 Avenue N.E., for reports that a passerby had located a woman who was believed to be in medical distress.

The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The woman was identified as 23-year-old Jelisa MASCHKI and an autopsy was conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. At the time of the autopsy, Jelisa’s manner of death was undetermined.

In the days following Jelisa’s autopsy, investigators have continued collecting evidence in the case, and now believe that her death is the result of a fatal altercation that occurred on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, sometime between 9 and 11 p.m.

“Tips from the public have been instrumental in helping us progress this investigation and find answers for Jelisa’s family,” says Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “This investigation is far from over and we have identified a new time frame that we are specifically looking for information and video from. If you’ve reviewed your CCTV or dashcam footage and don’t see anything overtly suspicious, we’re still interested in having a look at it. Even things that seem insignificant can have tremendous value to an investigation.”

Anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around Deerfoot Trail and 32 Avenue N.E., as well as 32 Avenue to 36 Avenue N.E., on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, between 9 and 11 p.m., is asked to contact police. Additionally, anyone who used the Nose Creek Pathway who may have seen anyone suspicious during the same timeframe is also asked to contact police.
