Death in southeast Calgary determined to be result of hit-and-run

A man found deceased on a roadway in southeast Calgary yesterday was the victim of a hit-and-run collision with a truck. Investigators have identified a suspect and vehicle believed to be involved in the collision and the investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.

Police were called at approximately 5:10 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2022, for a reports of a man in medical distress on the 1700 block of 35 Street S.E. EMS responded and transported the man to hospital, where he later died.

The investigation has revealed the victim, a 34-year-old man, had been at an area bar. It is believed he left the bar and at some point was holding onto the doorhandle of a departing red truck when he fell alongside the vehicle and was run over.

It is believed the truck left the scene before returning a short while later to check on the victim. Both the driver and the vehicle have been located.

This incident remains under investigation by the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section. No further information is available to share at this time.
