The trafficking of drugs in our city happens not only in the downtown, but also in the vast majority of communities in our city. This is a complex social issue that will take a collective effort to resolve. Enforcement is only one part of the equation and we will remain dedicated to doing what we can to keep our citizens safe.

Daylight Initiative Continues: 43 people charged since January

The Daylight Initiative began in December 2018 to address the exponential growth of methamphetamine in Calgary. Since the beginning of January, 248 charges have been laid against 43 individuals believed to be involved in the trafficking of drugs.

The Daylight Initiative involves multiple units within the Calgary Police Service, working together to address the issue from all angles – investigation, enforcement, public education and community support.

The January and February charges relate to street-level trafficking, as well as drug trafficking from residential homes. Arrests and search warrants occurred across the City.

“The trafficking of drugs in our city happens not only in the downtown, but also in the vast majority of communities in our city. This is a complex social issue that will take a collective effort to resolve. Enforcement is only one part of the equation and we will remain dedicated to doing what we can to keep our citizens safe,” says Insp. Kevin Forsen.

Fifteen of the accused were charged with 42 counts of breach of conditions, and 29 outstanding warrants for criminal code violations unrelated to this investigation. One of the accused was arrested twice in two separate investigations related to Daylight.
