Dashcam footage sought in road rage assault investigation

Investigators are searching for witnesses and dashcam footage in relation to a road rage assault that occurred earlier this week.

Around 5:45 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, the victim, who was driving a black 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback, was leaving the Deerfoot City parking lot, travelling in the intersection of Ninth Street and 64 Avenue N.E., waiting to turn onto westbound 64 Avenue. The vehicle in front of him failed to proceed on the advanced green and the victim honked his horn to get their attention. After this interaction, the suspect vehicle, described as a white sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, followed the victim, gesturing at him to pull over. Eventually the victim pulled into the Hunterhorn Plaza near the Canadian Tire gas station, located at 596 64 Avenue N.E.

As the victim exited his vehicle, he was approached by the suspect(s) who assaulted him, leaving him with significant injuries to his legs, head and face. The victim was able to escape the assault by getting back into his vehicle to flee, however, the suspect(s) are believed to have pursued him while travelling southbound on Deerfoot Trail and possibly into the community of Inglewood. At approximately 6:40 p.m., the victim driver ended up in a single-vehicle collision in the area of Ninth Avenue and Sixth Street S.E. A nearby CP Rail Officer witnessed the collision and checked on the driver, while calling for emergency assistance.

Investigators are searching for any CCTV or dashcam footage from people who may have been in either the Hunterhorn Plaza area at the time of the assault, or who may have travelled on Deerfoot Trail or into Inglewood at the time of the pursuit and collision.
