Dashcam footage and witnesses sought in pedestrian hit-and-run

Investigators are seeking dashcam footage and witnesses to a pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred on 17 Avenue S.W.

At around 11:30 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, a pedestrian was crossing 17 Avenue S.W., in the 500 block, when he was struck by a small, dark-coloured SUV travelling eastbound on 17 Avenue S.W. The pedestrian was not crossing in a crosswalk. The vehicle is believed to have been travelling at a high rate of speed and was last seen turning northbound on Fourth Street S.W.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in serious condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition and has sustained long-term injuries.

CCTV footage from the area has been collected in hopes of furthering the investigation, however, investigators are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with dashcam footage to come forward, as the footage may provide clearer images of the vehicle and the associated licence plate.
