CPS member charged in on-duty incident

The Calgary Police Service has charged an officer following an alleged assault that occurred in March 2016.

On the evening of Thursday, Mar. 24, 2016, officers responded to a complaint downtown that resulted in a man being arrested and charged. He was transported to the Arrest Processing Section where it is alleged that an assault took place while he was waiting to be processed.

Following review and consultation with the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s Office, a charge against the officer was recommended.

David PIZZOLATO, a Constable with 21 years of service, has been charged with one count of assault. He has been placed on a 30-day administrative leave while his status is reviewed.

The charged officer is afforded the right to a fair trial, the same as any member of the public, and they will receive all available supports from the Service during the court process.
