CPS member charged in off-duty incident

A member of the Calgary Police Service has been charged in relation to an off-duty domestic incident that occurred over the weekend.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, the member was arrested by the RCMP in a neighbouring municipality and charged with one count of assault following an alleged domestic incident.

To protect the privacy of the victim, the name of the member will not be released. The officer has been with the Service for 22 years. He has been relieved from duty with pay, where his status will be reviewed over the next 30 days.

Information about this incident are being released in the interest of public transparency.

As is the case anytime charges are laid against a member of the public, the officer is afforded the right to a fair trial and is being offered the appropriate supports from the Service throughout the court process.
