CPS investigating after unmarked RCMP vehicle stolen in Calgary

The Calgary Police Service is investigating the theft of an unmarked RCMP vehicle containing police equipment from a northeast Calgary parking lot.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, between approximately 10:15 and 10:35 p.m., the unmarked RCMP vehicle was taken from the parking lot, located in northeast Calgary. At the time of the incident, the on-duty RCMP officer was inside a nearby building and had placed the keys to the vehicle in a bag, which was placed inside a locker. The bag with the keys was stolen from the locker at which point the offender(s) gained access to the vehicle.

As the officer was on duty, the vehicle contained police equipment, including police identification and a police badge, soft body armour, pepper spray, handcuffs, baton, and a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun.

The vehicle is described as a silver 2018 Nissan Rogue with Alberta licence plate PBY-884.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

Citizens are reminded that they can request identification from anyone identifying themselves as a police officer and can also call the police non-emergency number to confirm an officer’s identity.
