Construction progress celebrated at Symons Valley Centre Library
The City of Calgary, Calgary Public Library and project partners gathered today to celebrate construction progress at Symons Valley Library, a community hub taking shape in the community of Sage Hill.
Construction is underway on Phase 2 of the project, which includes a new 15,000-square-foot public library, a multi-modal street, and parking facilities, will help address a service gap in northwest Calgary and provide spaces for learning, programs and community gathering. Phase 2 also includes an outdoor community commons where people can meet, relax and play.
Today's celebration recognizes significant progress made since construction began on the new library and marks an important milestone in the transformation of the seven-acre site into a vibrant community destination for northwest Calgary. Construction is expected to continue through 2028.
"Symons Valley Library is an investment in the people and communities of northwest Calgary. This project will bring together important amenities, including a new library, public gathering spaces, and future community services such as a Calgary Transit Terminal, helping create a vibrant destination where residents can connect, learn and thrive,” says Mayor Jeromy Farkas.
When complete, Symons Valley Library will welcome residents to a new community space designed to support the needs of one of Calgary's fastest-growing areas. Future planned phases for this site include the development of adjoining land parcels dedicated for non-market housing and mixed-use development, as well as a Calgary Transit terminal. By co-locating public amenities within a walkable, community-focused environment, the project will create opportunities for connection, recreation and learning close to home.

Phase 2 of the project includes:
· A new 15,000-square-foot public library
· Community commons green space
· Underground and surface parking to support the site
· A street designed to improve access throughout the site, whether you walk, drive, bike or wheel.
· Supporting infrastructure to service future phases of development and community amenities
About Symons Valley Library
Symons Valley Library is a new public library and community space currently under development at 251 Sage Hill Boulevard N.W. Located within the larger Symons Valley Centre project, the library will serve as a welcoming hub for learning, connection and community life. Future planned phases for this site include the development of adjoining land parcels dedicated for non-market housing and mixed-use development, as well a Calgary Transit terminal. The development will primarily serve residents of Sage Hill, Kincora, Sherwood, Nolan Hill and Evanston.
