Condo Complex Fire in Copperfield
At approximately 3:10 AM on March 21st, 2025, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to multiple 911 calls in the southeast community of Copperfield for a fire on the balcony of a condominium. When CFD arrived at the 99 Block of Copperstone Park, they found a 4 story, 72-unit apartment condominium with flames and smoke presenting on second, third and fourth floor balconies. Occupants had begun evacuating and sprinklers on the balcony had been activated.
Fire crews made entry into the complex, assisting evacuation and were able to quickly gain access to the units involved in fire. Crews on the outside of the building deployed hose lines and began knocking down the fire on the exterior. Interior crews found only light smoke inside the units and fire was kept to the outside. The fire was quickly brought under control and held to the exterior.
Calgary Police Service assisted the CFD by controlling traffic in the community and aiding with the evacuation and location of all occupants. Calgary Transit provided buses for sheltering the displaced evacuees. ATCO gas and Enmax were both on scene assisting CFD with utility control and isolation. The tenants of the complex were very cooperative in leaving the building and providing space and access for firefighters.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated and fire crews will be on scene well into the morning. The Calgary Fire Department reminds all citizens of the importance of having an evacuation plan and ensuring that alarms and safety systems are working. In an emergency, seconds count.
