City thanks residents and businesses for bringing water use back into the green zone
On Monday, Calgarians and surrounding neighbours reduced their water use, bringing our water demand below 500 million litres and back into the green zone.
Yesterday’s water use was 497 million litres, despite the higher demand needed to support a major fire in southeast Calgary. Thank you for stepping up in a meaningful way. Situations like this highlight how important your daily water-saving actions are to help ensure there’s enough capacity to respond to emergencies and maintain essential services.
As a reminder, we are asking everyone to save 25 litres of water per person, per day, by:
- Flushing toilets only when needed.
- Keeping showers to three minutes or less.
- Running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
By continuing these simple, high-impact actions over the next three weeks of work, we can keep our green streak going and keep our system stable while the Bearspaw South Feeder Main is out of service.
Construction and traffic update
Crews continue to make progress on the planned reinforcement of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, and work remains on schedule.
We are reinforcing a total of nine pipe segments:
- Six segments on 16 Avenue N.W., near Sarcee Trail
- Three segments in Point McKay Park
Today, crews are installing rebar reinforcements around exposed pipe segments and concrete pouring will continue across all work areas throughout the week. Two pipe segments at Sarcee Trail have already begun the concrete curing process.
Once curing is complete, the next step will be backfilling around the reinforced pipe segments.
There continues to be active construction and traffic accommodations near worksites. Please plan ahead, follow posted signage and give our crews space to work safely.
