Things to do
Free swimming on Thanksgiving
We are offering free swimming on Oct. 13 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m. at these locations:
- Acadia Aquatic & Fitness Centre (9009 Fairmount Dr. S.E.)
- Killarney Aquatic & Recreation Centre (1919 29 St. S.W.)
- Renfrew Aquatic & Recreation Centre (810 13 Ave. N.E.)
Due to the popularity of our free swims, we ask that you only attend one time slot. Pools may be cleared at 2:30 p.m. to make room for new customers.
Free skating on Thanksgiving
We are offering free skating on Oct. 13 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. at these locations:
- Optimist/George Blundun Arena (5020 26 Ave. S.W.)
- Rose Kohn/Jimmie Condon Arena (502 Heritage Dr. S.W.)
- Stu Peppard Arena (5300 19 St. S.W.)
Paid skating and swimming
Village Square Leisure Centre (2623 56 St. N.E.) is offering paid skating on Oct. 13 from 1 to 2:15 p.m and paid swimming from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tee up at City golf courses
Driving ranges and golf courses are open; book your tee time at calgary.ca/golf.
Note: Oct. 13 is the final day to golf at Lakeview and McCall Lake.
Getting around
Calgary Transit
Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, we adjust our service hours. On Monday, Oct. 13, Calgary Transit will be operating buses, CTrains and On Demand on a Sunday level of service. For more information on fares, schedules and Customer Service hours over the long weekend, visit calgarytransit.com.
Partial CTrain closure—Red Line: from Oct. 10 at 8:30 p.m. to start of service Oct. 14 the northbound Red Line will be closed between Lions Park and Sunnyside Stations due to installation work on the pedestrian bridge at SAIT/AuArts/Jubilee Station. This is only a partial closure, customers will need to board the train via the southbound side (heading towards City Centre/Somerset-Bridlewood) at the impacted stations during this time. Full CTrain service will be restored by start of service on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Calgary Parking
Enjoy free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday, Oct. 13. Weekend rates apply at all Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots such as TELUS Spark, the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.
The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13. For more information, please visit Calgary Parking.

Stampede Trail S.E. between 12 Avenue S.E. and 14 Avenue S.E. : from Oct. 10 to Oct. 31, two-way traffic.
Macleod Trail S.E. between 15 Avenue S.E. and 14 Avenue S.E. : from Oct. 6 to Nov. 1, two right lane closures northbound.
7 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. : until Oct. 19, full road closure; 24/7.
6 Avenue S.W. at 8 Street S.W. : from Oct. 6 to Oct. 14, single and double left lane closures; three lanes open.
9 Avenue S.E. between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. : from Sept. 15 to Oct. 13, two right lane closures; 2 lanes open (night and weekend reductions to 1 lane on 9 Avenue and 2 lanes on 1 Street S.E.).
2 Street S.W. at 11 Avenue S.W. : from Aug. 25 to Nov. 25, southbound lanes closed; two-way traffic on northbound lanes; 24/7.
Macleod Trail S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. : from Sept. 25 to Oct. 11, right and left lane closures on both roads for curb alignment (9am–3pm weekdays; 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Saturdays).
1 Street S.W. at 6 Avenue S.W. : starting Oct. 11 southbound closed; single northbound lane remains open for emergency glass repair.
12 Avenue S.E. and 1 Street S.E. : from Oct. 5 to Oct. 10, left lane and cycle track closures on 12 Avenue S.E.; right lane closure on 1 Street S.E.
Centre Street S between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. : Oct. 11, two-way traffic maintained.
12 Avenue S.W. between 7 Street S.W. and 8 Street S.W. : from Oct. 5 to Oct. 10, two left lane closures (1 lane open) and cycle track closure; 24/7.
2 Street S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. : from Oct. 6 to Oct. 14, two right lane closures on 2 Street S.W. (2 lanes open) and two left lane closures on 6 Avenue S.W. (3 lanes open) for ENMAX Green Line work.
6 Avenue S.W. between 9 Street S.W. and 10 Street S.W. : from Oct. 8 to Oct. 13, two left lanes closed 24/7; delays expected due to mural painting.
6 Avenue S.W. at 9 Street S.W. : from Oct. 8 to Oct. 14, two left lanes closed; three lanes remain open for Attainable Homes detour.
9 Avenue S.W. between 7 Street S.W. and 9 Street S.W. : from Oct. 13 to Oct. 17, daily left lane closure for utility work.
Northwest
Sunnyside Flood Barrier: Lane closure on eastbound Memorial Drive from 10 Street N.W. to Centre Street N. Westbound Memorial Drive is single lane in both directions. Signal timing has been adjusted to optimize traffic flow.
16 Avenue N.W. between Home Road N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. : from Jun. 30 to Oct. 31, nightly right and left lane closures for milling and paving; signalized intersections controlled by CPS, non-signalized by flaggers (9 p.m.–5 a.m. weekdays; 11 p.m.–7 a.m. weekend nights).
Memorial Drive N.W. between 10 Street N.W. and 10A Street N.W. : from Oct. 7 to Feb. 14, 2026, sidewalk and parking lane hoarding for building demolition and renovation; 24/7.
Northeast
16 Avenue N.E. and 19 Street N.E. : from Oct. 15 to Nov. 8, single right lane closure eastbound on 16 Avenue N.E. and southbound right turn bay closed on 19 Street N.E.; daily 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Southwest
34 Avenue S.W. between 17 Street S.W. and 14 Street S.W. : from Oct. 9 to Oct. 31, two-way traffic maintained; lanes reduced for concrete work.
Southeast
17 Avenue S.E. east of 84 Street S.E. : from Oct. 7 to Nov. 7, eastbound and westbound left lane closures for median construction (temporary road alignment); 24/7.
