City Services: Thanksgiving Day 2024

Calgary Transit 

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, we adjust our service hours. On Monday, Oct. 14, Calgary Transit will be operating buses, CTrains and On Demand on a Sunday level of service. For more information on fares, schedules and Customer Service hours over the long weekend, and to access the Trip Planner, visit calgarytransit.com.

From Saturday, Oct. 12 until Monday, Oct. 14, the Red Line will be closed between 7 Street Station and Brentwood Station. Shuttle buses will replace CTrain service between the affected stations – both via a regular replacement shuttle and an express route - and full CTrain service will be back up and running again before start of service on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Note: a separate Football Express shuttle will provide service between downtown and McMahon Stadium for the Stampeders game on Oct. 12.

Parking

Enjoy free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday, Oct. 14. Weekend rates apply at all Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots such as TELUS Spark, Calgary Stampede, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.

The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14. For more information, please visit Calgary Parking.

Road Construction and traffic safety

The following road closures will be in effect:

9 Avenue S.E. at 1 Street S.E.

• Oct. 11 – 13: Starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 11 until noon Oct. 13, the three left lanes of 9 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street, and the right lane of 1 Street S.E. will be closed between 8 and 9 Avenue S.E. Expect delays and watch for detour signs in the area.

37 Street S.W. between 19 and 23 Avenue S.W.

• 8 p.m. Oct. 11 to 5 a.m. Oct. 15: 37 Street S.W. between 19 and 23 Avenue S.W. will be closed for utility work. Detours will be in place, and drivers are reminded to watch for signs in the area.

Crowchild Trail between 24 and 32 Avenue N.W.

• 9 p.m. Oct. 11 – 5 a.m. Oct. 15: The north and southbound left lane between 24 and 32 Avenue N.W. will be closed for LRT maintenance.

33 Avenue S.W. between 20 and 19 Street S.W.

• 7 a.m. Oct. 11 to 7 p.m. Oct. 15: 33 Avenue S.W. between 20 and 19 Street S.W. will be closed for utility work. Drivers are reminded to obey detour signs in the area.

Harvest Hills Boulevard & Country Hills Boulevard N.W

• Oct. 19: Northbound Harvest Hills Boulevard left turn lanes to westbound Country Hills Boulevard will be closed. Please watch for detour signs in the area. 

North Central BRT (ongoing): Multiple lane closures with two way traffic on Centre Street between 59 Avenue and 36 Avenue N.W. / N.E. outside of rush hour. Pedestrian detours and lane closures at multiple locations. Please obey all signs in work areas.

Sunnyside Flood Barrier  (ongoing): eastbound Memorial Drive N.W. closed between 9 Street N.W. and Centre Street with two-way traffic on the north side westbound lanes.  

4 Avenue Flyover (ongoing): reduced to a single lane.

Recreation facility hours and closures

Free public skating

Public skating will be offered on Monday, Oct. 14, from 1 – 2:15 p.m. at:

• Ernie Starr Arena (4808 14 Ave. S.E.)
• Rose Kohn / Jimmie Condon Arenas (502 Heritage Dr. S.W.)
• Stew Hendry / Henry Viney Arenas (814 13 Ave. N.E.)

Admission is free.

Check our arena rules before joining us. Equipment rentals are not available.

Closures

All leisure centres, indoor pools, fitness centres and arenas (except for those mentioned earlier in this email ), arts centres, and the Calgary Soccer Centre will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024.

Swimming lessons are not running on Oct. 12, 13 or 14. Double check your program schedule at liveandplay.calgary.ca

Glenmore Reservoir will be open during its regular hours for recreational use.
