City Services: Remembrance Day 2025

We’re adjusting our hours of operation for Remembrance Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11 2025

Things to do

To honour the memory of those who have served and to show appreciation for those who continue to serve our country, flags at all City of Calgary facilities will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sundown on Remembrance Day.

Below is a list of some of the Remembrance Day ceremonies happening in Calgary, note these are not City of Calgary events:

If you are planning to attend a Remembrance Day service or event, please check the event website or contact the organization to confirm the event details before attending. 

Free swimming

We are offering free swimming on Nov. 11 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. and 3 – 4:30 p.m. at these locations:

Due to the popularity of our free swims, we ask that you only attend one time slot. Pools may be cleared at 2:30 p.m. to make room for new customers.

Free skating

We are offering free skating on Nov. 11 from 1 – 2:15 p.m. at these locations:

Paid skating and swimming

Village Square Leisure Centre (2623 56 St. N.E.) is offering paid skating on Nov. 11 from 1 – 2:15 p.m. and paid swimming from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Getting around

Calgary Transit 

On Nov. 11, Calgary Transit will be operating buses, CTrains and On Demand on a Saturday level of service. All veterans and accompanying family members will be able to ride transit for free on Remembrance Day. Veterans wearing uniforms or bearing Veteran identification cards are eligible.

Calgary Parking

Calgary parking offers veterans (with veteran plates) free parking on Remembrance Day in all surface lots and parkades.

Everyone enjoys free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones on Nov. 11 and weekend rates at all Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots such as Calgary Stampede, TELUS Spark, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.

The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed on Nov. 11. For more information, please visit calgaryparking.com.

Road closures, detours and traffic

There will be several short-term road closures to accommodate Remembrance Day ceremonies on Nov. 11:

  • Field of Crosses (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.)—full road closure of Memorial Drive between 4 Street N.E. and 10 Street N.W. for the Field of Crosses Remembrance Day event.
  • Sunnyside Flood Barrier and coordinating with Field of Crosses: the Sunnyside Flood Barrier project team is working closely with Field of Crosses organizers to ensure participants and volunteers can easily access the event site and find parking. Calgarians attending or volunteering at Field of Crosses events can visit calgary.ca/sunnysidefloodbarrier to view the access map and find detailed information.
  • Calgary Highlanders Remembrance Day parade around Central Memorial Park (10 a.m. to 1p.m.)—the following road closures will be in effect:
    • 13 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 & 5 Street S.W.
    • 12 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 & 4 Street S.W.
    • 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 12 & 13 Avenue S.W.

Northwest

Sunnyside Flood Barrier (ongoing construction impacts in the area):

  • Memorial Drive eastbound between 10 Street N.W. and 4 Street N.W.—eastbound lanes will be closed; all eastbound traffic will be detoured to one westbound lane.
  • Memorial Drive between 4 Street N.W. and Centre Street N.W.—one left lane closed in each direction. Right lanes of westbound and eastbound will remain open.
    • Parking Lot 59 will be right turn only. Eastbound traffic can use U-turn route at Centre St. to access Lot 59. Follow all signage and traffic controls posted.

Night milling and paving operations at multiple locations:

  • 16 Avenue from Home Road to Canada Olympic Common N.W./Bowfort Road N.W.
  • Sarcee Trail from Crowchild Trail to Country Hills Boulevard
  • Nosehill Drive from 87 Street to Silver Springs Road
  • Nosehill Drive from John Laurie Boulevard to Country Hills Boulevard

Northeast

Night milling and paving operations at multiple locations:

  • Mcknight Boulevard ramps at 36 Street N.E. to Barlow Trail
  • Barlow Trail north of Mcknight Boulevard

Country Hills Boulevard between Barlow Trail & 36 Street N.E.—Nov. 7 to July 15, 2026: new temporary road on the north side of existing Country Hills Boulevard.

 Memorial Drive at 52 Street N.E.—Nov. 3 – 15: reduced lanes and two-way traffic.


Southeast

Macleod Trail from Midlake Boulevard to Canyon Meadows Drive—Sept. 6 to Dec. 15: median barrier work, left lanes closed in both directions.


Southwest

 34 Avenue S.W. between 17 Street S.W. and 14 Street S.W.—Oct. 9 to Nov. 15: two-way traffic setup in place for concrete works.


Downtown

Macleod Trail between 15 Avenue and 14 Avenue S.E.—Oct. 6 to Nov. 15: northbound, two right lane closures.

7 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue and 9 Avenue S.W.—Oct. 20 to Nov. 14: one lane open.

2 Street S.W. at 11 Avenue S.W.—Aug. 25 to Nov. 25: southbound lanes closed, two-way traffic on northbound lanes.

9 Avenue S.W. between 8 Street and 6 Street—Oct. 21 to Nov. 16: one left lane closed, second lane closed, two lanes open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

2 Street S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W.—Nov. 10 to Dec. 10: 2 right lanes closed on 5 Avenue S.W. (3 lanes open), 2 lanes closed on 2 Street S.W. (1 lane open) for ENMAX Greenline work.

1 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue and 7 Avenue S.W.—Nov. 12 to 16: southbound road closure, two-way traffic on east side for ENMAX emergency repair.

12 Avenue S.E. between Stampede Trail and 5 Street S.E.—Nov. 10 to Jan. 9, 2026: full closure for Calgary Event Centre construction.

8 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W.—Nov. 11 to 28: southbound road closure, two-way traffic in northbound lanes.
