City Services: Remembrance Day 2023
We’re adjusting our hours of operation for Remembrance Day on Saturday, Nov. 11 2023
To honour the memory of those who have served and to show appreciation for those who continue to serve our country, flags at all City of Calgary facilities will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sundown on Remembrance Day.
Below is a list of some of the Remembrance Day ceremonies happening in Calgary:
- Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14 Ave. N.W.)
- King's Own Calgary Regiment (137 Battalion Memorial, North Glenmore Park)
- Studio Bell National Music Centre (300-851, 4 Street S.E.)
- Field of Crosses (Memorial Drive between 3 Street N.W. and Centre Street)
- The Hangar Flight Museum (4629 McCall Way N.E.)
- The Military Museums (4520 Crowchild Tr. S.W.)
- Canadian Pacific Memorial (CP Memorial Square, 7550 Ogden Dale Rd. S.E.)
- Calgary Highlanders Remembrance Day parade (Central Memorial Park from 10:30-11:15 a.m.)

Getting around
Calgary Transit
On Remembrance Day we’ll be operating buses, CTrains, and On Demand on a Saturday level of service. All veterans and accompanying family members will be able to ride transit for free on Remembrance Day. Veterans wearing uniforms or bearing Veteran identification cards are eligible.
The Red Line will be closed between Lions Park Station and downtown starting Saturday, Nov. 11 until the very early hours of Monday, Nov. 13. Shuttle buses will replace northbound train service to all stations from 7 Street Station to Lions Park Station; and southbound to all stations from Lions Park Station to 8 Street Station. Road closures, detours and traffic
There will be several short-term road closures to accommodate Remembrance Day ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 11:
Field of Crosses (Nov. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
- Memorial Drive N will be closed between 4 Street N.E. and 10 Street N.W. with local traffic to Sunnyside maintained
- The lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge will be closed
- Please watch for increased pedestrian volume in the area
- CPS will be on-site directing traffic at all closure points
Calgary Highlanders Remembrance Day parade (Central Memorial Park) (Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.)
- 12 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 4 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W.
- 13 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 5 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. with access to the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre maintained
- 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 12 Avenue S.W. and 13 Avenue S.W.
- Please watch for increased pedestrian volume in the area
- CPS will be on-site directing traffic at all closure points

Parking
On Saturday, Nov. 11, parking is free in on-street ParkPlus zones. Weekend rates will apply at all Calgary Parking surface lots and parkades. Our Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed. A dedicated team will be available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to attend to any calls or inquiries you may have. For more information, please visit Calgary Parking.
Veterans' parking: Veterans displaying a valid Alberta registered Veterans' license plate can park for free at Calgary Parking lots and parkades. For more information on the Veterans' Parking Program, please visit Calgary Parking or call 403-537-7000.

The following are open on Nov. 11:
- Southland Leisure Centre will be open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- A free public skate will be offered at Murray Copot Arena (6727 Centre St. N.W.) and Rose Kohn / Jimmie Condon Arenas (502 Heritage Dr. S.W.) from 1 – 2:15 p.m.
- A paid public skate will be offered at Village Square Leisure Centre's Arena #1 (2623 56 St. N.E.) from 1 – 2:15 p.m.
- Check our arena rules and regulations before joining us. Equipment rentals are not available.
