Things to do

Tee up at City golf courses

Getting around

Calgary Transit 

Over the Labour Day weekend we adjust our service hours. On Monday, Sept. 1, we will be operating buses, CTrains and On Demand on a Sunday level of service.

CTrain closures on the Labour Day weekend:  

  • The Red Line will be closed between Heritage and Victoria Park/Stampede stations starting Friday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m., until 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1.
  • The Blue Line will be closed between Rundle and Franklin stations starting Friday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m., until 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1.

Part of 9 Avenue downtown will be closed due to the Calgary Pride Parade on Sunday, Aug. 31, and some bus routes will be affected. Detour route information will be made available at calgarytransit.com/service-updates.

Calgary Parking 

Enjoy free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday, Sept. 1. Weekend rates apply at all Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots such as TELUS Spark, the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.

The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1. For more information, please visit calgaryparking.com.

Road closures 

Calgary Pride Parade Road closures: On Sunday, Aug. 31 until 3 p.m., 9 Avenue will be closed from 8 Street S.E. in Inglewood to 11 Street S.W. in the Downtown West End. Closures will begin at:

  • 6 a.m. – 3 p.m.: 9 Avenue closed from 8 Street S.E. to 3 Street S.W. (includes multiple streets in East Village)
  • 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.: 9 Avenue closed from 3 Street S.W. to 11 Street S.W.

Northwest:

Sunnyside Flood Barrier: Lane closure on eastbound Memorial Drive from 10 Street N.W. to Centre St N. Westbound Memorial Drive is single lane in both directions. Signal timing has been adjusted to optimize traffic flow.

Southwest:

15 Avenue S.W. Mobility Improvements

  • Aug. 30 – 31: closed for repaving between 7 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W.
  • Aug. 30 – 31: closed for repaving between 2 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail
  • July 26 – Sept. 4: closed at 2 Street S.W. for roadwork

Shawnee Drive at Shawnee Boulevard S.W. : Until Sept. 4: there will be a full road closure with a temporary road for utility work.

 Marda Loop

  • Until Sept. 10: there will be road closure in phases at 19 Street S.W. between 33 Avenue S.W. and 34 Avenue S.W.
  • Until Oct. 2: there will be a full road closure at 34 Avenue S.W. between 22 Street S.W. and 21 Street S.W.

Southeast:

4th Avenue Flyover: Aug. 28 – early Sept: the right-hand, westbound lane of Memorial Drive will be closed during off-peak hours for approximately 1-2 weeks to lay the foundations for the roadway sign installation.

25 Avenue at Macleod Trail S.E. : Aug. 29 – Sept. 2: 24/7 road closure for construction. Please drive with caution and use an alternative route.

Blackfoot Trail over 9 Avenue S.E. : Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. until Sept. 2 at 5 a.m.: there will be left lanes closed in each direction with one lane open for bridge rehabilitation and concrete pours.

Downtown:

12 Avenue S.E. and Olympic Way S.E. : until Oct. 12: there will be an intersection and full road closure.

Northbound Macleod Trail between 15 Avenue and 14 Avenue S.E. : Until Oct. 3: there will be a right lane closed.

9 Avenue S.W. between Centre Street and Macleod Trail: until Oct. 12: there will be deep utility construction work happening, reducing the road to a single lane on 9 Avenue S.W. during evenings and weekends. There will still be two lanes open.

1 Street S.E. between 8 Avenue and 9 Avenue S.W. : until Aug. 30: there will be a 24/7 right lane closed (3 lanes open) on 1 Street S.E. and two right lanes closed (2 lanes open) on 9 Avenue S.E.

11 Avenue S.W. between 2 Street and 4 Street S.W. : until Sept. 20:  there will be two left lanes closed 24/7 (2 lanes open) and three left lanes closed (1 lane open) on weekends.

5 Avenue S.W. and 8 Street S.W. : until Sept. 4:  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, there will be two right lanes closed (3 lanes open) on 5 Avenue S.W. and a northbound/southbound right lane closure on 8 Street S.W.

6 Avenue S.W. and 2 Street S.W. : Sept. 1 – 20: there will be two left lanes closed (3 lanes open) on 6 Avenue S.W. and 2 Street S.W. will be reduced to 1 lane.

7 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue and 9 Avenue S.W. : until Oct. 5: there will be a 24/7 full road closure.

12 Avenue S.W. between 5 Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. : Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. until Sept. 1: the north sidewalk, cycle track and two north lanes closed for a water project. One lane will stay open.

8 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W. : until Sept. 7: the southbound road will be closed with two-way traffic on the east side of the road. One lane will be open in each direction.
