City Services: Labour Day 2021

We're adjusting our hours of operation for Labour Day on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021.

Getting around

Calgary Transit

Calgary Transit will provide Sunday level of service on Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 6. For more information on fares, schedules and service changes, please visit calgarytransit.com.

Parking
No payment is required for on-street parking on Labour Day, Sept. 6. Holiday rates will be in effect at Calgary Parking Authority parkades and select surface lots. Regular rates will be in effect at the Calgary Zoo, TELUS Spark and Heritage Park. Our Impound Lot will also be closed. More information is available at calgaryparking.com.

Anderson LRT pedestrian bridge closure

As work continues on the Anderson LRT bridge rehabilitation, contractors are planning sandblasting activities during the long weekend. Sandblasting produces noise and sand that would not be safe for pedestrians. As a result, the Anderson LRT pedestrian bridge will be closed from nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on Friday, September 3. This closure will occur at night during these hours on September 3 – 7 (ending at 5 a.m. on September 8). There will also be some reduced lanes on MacLeod Trail at Anderson Road during these evenings.

Calgary Transit will provide a shuttle service for bridge users to the mall. The Anderson Station-Southcentre Shuttle will be in service from 7:45 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. each night and will run every 15 minutes. We thank everyone for their patience while we conduct this critical infrastructure work. For more information on this project, visit Calgary.ca/andersonbridge

5 Avenue flyover rehabilitation project

On Saturday, Sept. 4, three lanes will be closed on the 5 Avenue flyover between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should expect significant delays and plan an alternate route if possible. These closures are required as part of the 5 Avenue flyover rehabilitation project.

Road closures

17 Avenue S.W. – Macleod Trail to 2 Street S.W..

On Sunday, September 5 from 4 a.m. until 3 p.m., a full closure will be in place on 17 Avenue S.W., from Macleod Trail to 2 Street S.W., to accommodate top-lift paving. During this time, westbound traffic will be detoured to 14 Avenue S.W. and eastbound traffic will be detoured to 15 Avenue S.W. Access will also be available via 18 Avenue S.W.

Alternating, single lane closures will also be taking place from Macleod Trail to 2 Street S.W. on Saturday, September 4 to accommodate milling.

Sidewalk and business access will be fully maintained.

16 Avenue N.W. – 45 Street to 49 Street N.W.

Lane closures and traffic shifts will be taking place along 16 Avenue N.W., from 45 Street to 49 Street N.W., as follows:

  • 8 p.m. on Friday, September 3 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7
    • Westbound traffic will be detoured to the south side (eastbound lanes) of 16 Avenue N.W. between 45 Street to 49 Street N.W.

We will maintain business and resident access whenever possible between 45 and 49 Street N.W.; however, driveway entrances along 16 Avenue N.W. will be closed while crews are working. Pedestrian access on the north side 16 Avenue will be maintained. Detours will be in place, and signage will be posted in the work area. During these closures, there will be no left turns from 16 Avenue to 45 Street, 46 Street, 49 Street and Home Road N.W. Go to calgary.ca/safetyimprovements to see vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian detours.
