The City of Calgary is adjusting its hours of operation during the holiday season

Getting around:

Calgary Transit
Over the holidays we adjust our service hours. On New Year’s Eve we offer extended evening service on our CTrain, MAX routes and some bus routes. CTrain: Trains will run every 15 minutes throughout the day. Trains will run every 30 minutes after 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m.

Calgary Parking Authority
Holiday rates will be in effect at select CPA surface lots and parkades, and payment is not required for on-street ParkPlus zones on Friday, Dec. 25, Saturday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Jan. 1.

Parking grace periods in ParkPlus zones
Until February 1, 2021, The City of Calgary and the CPA are offering 15 minutes of free on-street parking in Calgary's on-street ParkPlus zones. 

This promotion will support local businesses by accommodating expanded curb side pick-ups and deliveries given the latest COVID-19 restrictions. The City and the CPA acknowledge the recent increase in demand for short-term parking as Calgarians are opting for safe curbside pick-up and delivery options. City Winter Fire pits
We're warming up select parks with temporary free-to-use fire pits this winter.

  • Fire pits can only be used by those living in the same household.
  • Free fire wood is only available to permit holders until December 23.

City Outdoor Skating Rinks & New Glenmore Ice Trail
All outdoor skating areas in Calgary are weather dependent may close if conditions deteriorate or maintenance is required.

  • The new North Glenmore Park Ice Trail is scheduled to open December 20 (weather dependent).
  • Users must ensure current Public Health Orders are followed at all times and people from different households must maintain appropriate physical distancing.

New Year’s Eve

Cart collection
There is no residential cart pick up on Christmas Day (Friday, Dec. 25) or New Year's Day (Friday, Jan. 1). If your blue, green or black cart collection normally falls on a Friday, your collection day will be three days later on Monday. Check your collection schedule and sign up for reminders at calgary.ca/collection.

  • Christmas Day (Friday, Dec. 25) pick up will move to Monday, Dec. 28.
  • New Year's Day (Friday, Jan. 1) pick up will move to Monday, Jan. 4.

Christmas trees
Don’t let those real Christmas trees go to waste. Compost your real Christmas tree using your green cart. Remove all lights, ornaments and tinsel then cut your tree to fit inside the green cart. Put extra branches into paper yard waste bags and set at least two feet to the side of your green cart. Or take your tree to one of our drop-off locations from December 26 to January 31. Facility closures

All City-operated recreation facilities including our aquatic and fitness centres, arenas, the soccer centre and arts centres remain closed as required by enhanced Public Health Orders that began on December 13.

The Calgary Municipal Building will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 24. The building is also closed Friday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Jan. 1.

The Animal Services Centre is closed Friday, Dec. 25, Saturday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Jan. 1.
