City Services - Victoria Day 2018

We're adjusting our hours of operation for the Victoria Day holiday on Monday, May 21. Here's a list of what you need to know:

Getting around

Calgary Transit - CTrain disruptions
Over the May long weekend (May 19-21), all downtown CTrain stations will be closed for scheduled maintenance. The Red Line will be closed between Sunnyside and Victoria Park-Stampede and the Blue Line will be closed between Sunalta and Bridgeland-Memorial stations. Shuttle buses will replace CTrain service between these stations.

City Pathways
Before you walk, run or cycle on a City pathway this weekend, make sure you check for pathway closures before you leave at calgary.ca/pathwayclosures.

Street Sweeping
Residential street sweeping is ongoing and crews are in residential areas from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Please check Calgary.ca/sweep for schedule information.

Blackfoot Trail – May 21, 22
Blackfoot Trail will be closed between 17 Avenue S.E. and Highfield Road S.E. for annual street cleaning from 9 p.m. on Monday, May 21 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22. Traffic will be redirected to 11 Street S.E. and 26 Avenue S.E. Use alternate routes.

Road construction and paving
The following road closures will be in effect during the May long weekend:

Glenmore Trail between Blackfoot and Deerfoot (weather dependent)
From 9 p.m. on Friday, May 18 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, westbound Glenmore Trail will be reduced to a single lane between Deerfoot Trail and Blackfoot Trail SE. The ramp from southbound Deerfoot to westbound Glenmore will also be closed for this construction project. Information on this project can be found on Calgary.ca.

4 Street / Mission Road
The 4th Street Bridge over the Elbow River (between 26 Avenue SW and Roxboro Road SW) will be closed from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 18 until 10 p.m. on Monday, May 21. Pedestrians and cyclists will also be unable to access the bridge.

Parking
On-street parking is free on May 21 and Holiday rates will be in effect at select Calgary Parking Authority surface lots and parkades.

Spring cleaning
The City’s annual Spring Yard Waste program runs through May 27. Drop off your leaves, branches, plants and other yard waste for free at any City landfill.

Compost giveaways
Free compost made from the food and yard waste collected in the Green Cart program is available for pickup at the Calgary Composting Facility between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays in May. As it’s the long weekend, we know Calgarians will want to work on their yards. The first couple of hours are typically the busiest – coming later in the day can avoid delays. No trailers are allowed. Community cleanupsCommunity cleanups are taking place from now through September. View the community cleanup schedule for events in your neighbourhood.

Catch a wave or play in the gym at a Leisure Centre
Both Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22. Regular admission applies.

Visit calgary.ca/golf to book a tee time, print score cards and learn more about special offers at our six municipal courses located throughout the city.

Flood readiness
The risk of river flooding in Calgary is greatest between May 15 and July 15 each year. Visit calgary.ca/floodinfo to understand your flood risk, receive updates and get detailed information on how you can be prepared for flood season.

Fire Safety
A reminder to be cautious when using outdoor open flames, including barbeques and backyard fire pits. Going camping this weekend? Visit albertafirebans.ca to check for any fire restrictions in the area.
