City of Calgary Hours of Operation for Victoria Day 2026

We're adjusting our hours of operation for Victoria Day Long Weekend

Things to do

Tee up this long weekend at City golf courses
Get into the swing of things this long weekend at City driving ranges or tee it up at one of our seven municipal golf courses at five locations throughout the city. Visit calgary.ca/golf to learn more and book a tee time.

All indoor pools, fitness centres and arenas and Maxwell Soccer Centre will operate on regular hours of operation on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17.

Free ice skating on Victoria Day

Join us on Monday, May 18 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. for some free family skating at these locations:

Free swimming on Victoria Day

Join us on Monday, May 18 from 1 to  2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m. for some free family swimming at these locations:

Due to the popularity of our free swims, we ask that you only attend one time slot.

Pools may be cleared at 2:30 p.m. to make room for new customers.

Weight rooms will also be open during these times.

Getting around

Calgary Transit 
Buses, CTrains and On Demand will be operating on a Sunday level of service on Monday, May 18. Find more details on fares, schedules and service changes at calgarytransit.com.

Major LRT closures: All Downtown stations and impacts to Red and Blue Lines

From Saturday, May 16 until start of service Tuesday, May 19:

  • Downtown: All stations
  • Blue Line: Westbrook, Shaganappi, Sunalta and Bridgeland/Memorial
  • Red Line: Sunnyside and 39 Avenue

In downtown, shuttle buses will replace train service. Customers can catch shuttle buses along the standard parallel routing on both 6 Avenue S and 9 Avenue S. These closures allow for required maintenance and utility work.

Please Note:

  • There will be a separate Blue Line shuttle for travel to Sunalta Station from Downtown West/Kerby Station.
  • Special Stampeders Football shuttles will also be available on Monday, May 18 to help Stamps’ fans get to the game from Chinook and Bridgeland/Memorial stations.

Road construction and traffic safety
Below are SOME of the road construction and closures that will be in effect this long weekend. For a complete list, visit calgary.ca/trafficinfo

Southwest

  • May 15: a portion of Belmont Avenue S.W., east of Belmont Drive S.W., is closed for approximately one week for the Belmont Fieldhouse and Library project. Two-way access to Belview Apartments and Belmont Park Townhomes remains open. No parking is allowed in the closure area.
  • May 15 to 18: eastbound road closure of Richmond Road S.W. at 32 Avenue S.W.
  • May 15 to 19: full road closure on 5 Street S.W. and cycle track and two left lanes closed (1 lane open) on 12 Avenue S.W.
  • May 15 to 19: full road closure on 5 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue and 8 Avenue S.W.
  • May 16 to 17: full road closure on 3 Street S.W. at 5 Avenue S.W.
  • May 16 to 18: three left lane closures (1 lane open) on 11 Avenue S.W. between 2 Street and 4 Street S.W.

Northwest

  • Bearspaw Feeder Main (ongoing): both eastbound lanes of 16 Avenue N.W., between Monterey Avenue N.W. and Montgomery Avenue N.W. are closed. Single lane traffic is maintained in both directions. Monterey Avenue N.W. and Montgomery Avenue N.W. will both remain open with access to 16 Avenue N.W
  • Sunnyside Flood Barrier (ongoing): construction impacts along Memorial Drive. Expect major delays.
  • May 14 to 19: northbound road closure with left lane closure southbound on 4 Street N.W. between 16 Avenue and 17 Avenue N.W.
  • Until June 4: construction continues on the east side of 19 Street N.W. between Kensington Road N.W. and 2 Avenue N.W. The northbound lane will be closed during some phases, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and northbound traffic will be detoured to 20 Street N.W. Access to homes and businesses will remain open.

Southeast

  • May 15 to 19: intersection closure (no southbound and nortbound through traffic) on 36 Street S.E. and Memorial Drive S.E. for roadway re-construction
  • 6 Street S.E. Underpass Project (ongoing): lane closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 5 Street and 8 Street S.E. 

Northeast

  • May 15 to 17: Edmonton Trail N.E. reduced to a single lane at 1 Avenue N.E.

On long weekends and every day, we’re asking drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to prioritize safety and avoid distractions. Distraction is a serious issue that puts all of us at risk. Distraction includes electronic devices, but it also includes getting lost in our thoughts or having too much on our minds that we don’t pay attention before it’s too late.

Calgary Parking
Enjoy free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday, May 18. Weekend rates apply at Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots such as Calgary Stampede, TELUS Spark, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.

Street sweeping
There will be no street sweeping on Monday, May 18. Crews sweep residential areas Mondays through Fridays (excluding holidays) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We would like to thank Calgarians for moving their vehicles to help us make a clean sweep.
