City of Calgary Hours of Operation for Victoria Day 2025

We're adjusting our hours of operation for Victoria Day Long Weekend

Things to do

Tee up this long weekend at City golf courses
Get into the swing of things this long weekend at City driving ranges or tee it up at one of our seven municipal golf courses at five locations throughout the city. Visit calgary.ca/golf to learn more and book a tee time.

We are offering free swimming on Monday, May 19 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m. at these locations:

Due to the popularity of our free swims, we ask that you only attend one time slot. Pools may be cleared at 2:30 p.m. to make room for new customers.

Getting around

Calgary Transit
Buses, CTrains and On Demand will be operating on a Sunday level of service on Monday, May 19. Find more details on fares, schedules and service changes at calgarytransit.com.

From Saturday, May 17 until start of service Tuesday, May 20, all downtown stations will be closed – from Sunalta to Bridgeland/Memorial on the Blue Line, and from Sunnyside to 39 Avenue on the Red Line..

7 Avenue will be closed to both train and bus traffic during this time to allow for required maintenance and utility work, so shuttle buses will replace train service through the downtown area, using standard parallel routing along both 6 Avenue and 9 Avenue. Note: buses will replace Blue Line service between Bridgeland/Memorial and Westbrook stations, and there will be a separate Blue Line shuttle for travel to Sunalta Station. Three-car trains will be running all weekend, including Sunday and Victoria Day..

Maps and full route information for this weekend’s bus and CTrain detours can be found at calgarytransit.com/CTrain-service.

Road construction and traffic safety
There’s a lot of work happening to support our growing city. Here are some of the major closures to be aware of this long weekend:

  • 4 Avenue Flyover: reduced to a single lane.
  • Sunnyside Flood Barrier: Lane closure on eastbound Memorial Drive from 10 Street N.W. to Centre St N. Westbound Memorial Drive is single lane in both directions. Signal timing has been adjusted to optimize traffic flow.
  • 9 Avenue S.W. from 14 Street to just before 11 Street S.W.: Four out of five eastbound lanes will be closed starting Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. through to Tuesday, May 20 at 5 a.m. The intersection at 9 Avenue and 11 Street S.W. will remain fully open. To help keep traffic moving, the Bow Trail Lane Reversal will be in effect: a normally westbound lane between Bow Trail and 5 Avenue will be switched to run eastbound into downtown from Saturday, May 17 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday May 20. Drivers normally using 4 Avenue to access westbound Bow Trail are encouraged to use 9 Street or 10 Street S.W. as alternate routes to access 6 Avenue.
  • Memorial Drive eastbound at Baines Bridge: new lane configuration in effect. Left lane closed (two lanes open).
  • 19 Street N.W. between 16 Avenue & 17 Avenue N.W. will be fully closed. Two westbound lanes on 16 Avenue N.W. will also be closed (one lane open westbound). (May 17 at 6 a.m. to May 20 at 5 a.m.)
  • Bow Trail at 85 Street S.W.: One lane open in each direction.
  • Barlow Trail at 90 Avenue S.E.: southbound lanes closed. Two-way traffic maintained on northbound lanes with Calgary Police Service (CPS) on site.
  • 4 Street S.W. at 7 Avenue S.W.: three left lanes closed beginning May 16 at 9 a.m. Full closure begins at 7 p.m. from May 16 to 20.

It’s not a pain when you have a plan. Download the Waze app for real-time driver info and visit calgary.ca/PlanYourTrip for all the tools to help you navigate your commute.

Be safe. Slow down. On May long weekend and every day, we’re asking drivers to reduce their speed. We all understand that speeding is dangerous, but we may not understand that every kilometre over the speed limit increases the risk of a crash. Visit calgary.ca/besafe  and calgary.ca/traffictips to learn more about what you can do keep yourself and others safe on our roads and pathways.

Calgary Parking
Enjoy free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday, May 19. Weekend rates apply at Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots such as Calgary Stampede, TELUS Spark, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park. The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed. For more information, please visit Calgary Parking.

Street sweeping
There will be no street sweeping on Monday, May 19. Crews sweep residential areas Mondays through Fridays (excluding holidays) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We would like to thank Calgarians for moving their vehicles to help us make a clean sweep. Visit calgary.ca/sweep for schedule lookup and to sign-up for e-mail/text notifications.
