City of Calgary announces 2026 Travel Safe Student Video Contest winners
Traffic incidents continue to injure — and tragically, sometimes kill — people across Calgary. The City believes students bring a fresh, on-the-ground view of how we move through streets and pathways, and that their ideas can help spark real solutions. That imagination took centre stage in this year’s Travel Safe Student Video Contest, as winners were named in five categories.
“Students experience our roads and pathways differently than adults, and their ideas are powerful,” says Jacquelyn Oriold, Education Specialist, Mobility Safety. “By tapping into their creativity, we’re helping build a culture of safety that starts early and reaches families, communities, and everyone who travels in Calgary.”
The Travel Safe Student Video Contest is the City of Calgary’s annual celebration of creativity, safety, and student voices. K–12 students are invited to create short videos that inspire safer travel behaviours for everyone who uses Calgary’s streets and pathways. There are exciting prizes up for grabs, including bikes, tech items, and gift cards. This year, an entire class could won a field-trip experience.
Public Showcase
Finalist videos were showcased at a public viewing party at the Calgary Central Library, where the winning videos and prizes were announced.

Prizes
Each Division winner received a $1,000 gift card, which can be used toward a prize of their choice from a curated list that includes:
Sport & Active Transportation Gear: Items such as bikes, scooters, helmets, or other sports equipment from a local Calgary store of your choice
Local Attractions & Experiences: Custom package of family memberships/passes to multiple local attractions
Travel Safety Learning & Skills Programs: Such as driving lessons, learn-to-bike programs, or other approved travel/mobility skills training programs
The Classroom Submission Winner will receive $1,000 toward a class field trip or classroom celebration.
Outstanding winners each received $500.
