City announces new Arts & Culture Microgrant Program

Citizens and visitors will be able to enjoy several arts, culture, sport and recreation events and activities this year through Calgary’s new Arts & Culture Microgrant Program.

The City of Calgary is awarding between $500 to $50,000 to applicants in support of experiences that take place from June 6 through December 31, 2022. Opportunities for funding include community-run projects, new opportunities for local artists, activations in winter months and local events hosted by notfor-profits. These grants are a part of a $3.2M investment in the Arts and Culture sector that was approved by Council in November 2021.

“Calgarians and visitors alike have come to enjoy our city’s world-class arts and culture offerings,” says Jennifer Thompson, Manager of Arts & Culture at The City of Calgary. “As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s critical that we come together as a community to access these experiences that provide us with so much joy and contribute to our quality of life.”

Calgary event planners, artists, non-profit groups and Business Improvement Areas are invited to submit applications through The City’s website. Applications will be received until the total funding allotment has been awarded.

“The Arts & Culture Microgrant recognizes there are all types of activities that need funding to be successful,” Thompson adds. “This program is meant to strengthen our local economy by promoting public arts and cultural events and experiences that support our community spirit and wellbeing.”
